Who is Sugar Love?

I'm a Wife and Mommy in New Hampshire and have always had a passion for food, baking, and entertaining. I'll post some of my recipes here along with pictures of some of the things I've done for parties and events.

I try to live healthy, but love food...not always a good combination. I try to make recipes for some of my favorite things healthier anywhere I can. Some recipes are just meant to be delicious, but I make most of my recipes with less fat if it doesn't compromise too much flavor.

Spinach Salad with Strawberries & Poppy Seed Dressing

I made this salad for a summer baby shower.  It was all women and we were having a cold soup and sandwiches, so I wanted something simple, light and healthy, yet delicious.

Spinach salads are so easy to make and have SO much flavor!

 Salad Ingredients:
  • 1 Package Baby Spinach
  • 1 pint strawberries, sliced
  • 4 ounces crumbled Goat Cheese (You could use Gorgonzola or Blue Cheese instead)
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted (I bought some in a bag in the Produce Section that were honey roasted-- YUM!)
  • Poppy Seed Dressing (recipe below)
To make the salad: You could put everything in a bowl and toss with the dressing.  I layered everything and poured the dressing over the top because I thought it looked prettier.  This is just personal preference.

Modifications: You could add Avocado to this, or you could use a different nut if you don't want almonds.  Pecans would be delicious in this as well.

Poppy Seed Dressing Ingredients:(Adapted from Gimme Some Oven)

  • 1/4 cup Olive Oil (Or the Oil of your choice)
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. honey
  • 1/2 Tbsp. poppy seeds
  • Pinch of ground dry mustard (optional)
  • Salt and Pepper
To make the dressing: Wisk all ingredients together and pour over salad.  This recipe is easily doubled
